Payment Reform: Critical to IEC’s mission

Primary care is important because it helps the whole healthcare system work better and makes healthcare fairer for everyone. Primary care is also a key part of IEC's mission. We want to make healthcare better and safer for people with disabilities. We believe that starts with making sure everyone can get good primary care.

Leaders are starting to see that we need to spend more money on primary care and get more doctors to use "value-based payment." Value-based payment means doctors get paid based on keeping patients healthy, not just on how many tests or treatments they do.

Mai Pham spoke on a panel hosted by the Bipartisan Policy Center and including Adam Myers, MD, Chief Clinical Transformation Officer, Blue Cross Blue Shield Association, and Robert Phillips, MD, MSPH, Executive Director, The Center for Professionalism and Value in Health Care, American Board of Family Medicine. They discuss how federal policy can strengthen value-based primary care, as well as innovative ways to pay for and deliver healthcare that are working.
