Get to Know IEC

Personally committed. IEC was founded by healthcare professionals who also have disabled loved ones. We share the anxiety and isolation of navigating an opaque, disconnected, and underfunded world of support services.

Deep experience in healthcare transformation. We understand the system and have a track record of building broad coalitions of clinical organizations, payers, purchasers, regulators, consumer advocates, and social service professionals to improve patient health.

Raising the voices of people with disabilities. Disability self-advocates are involved in every IEC project at every level because understanding what matters most to people with disabilities is fundamental to ensuring better care.

  • Hear self-advocates and care partners describe their experiences with healthcare in our video.

Collaborative. We welcome partnerships with organizations with complementary expertise. IEC promotes inclusive values like self-determination and community integration (see IEC’s Process Guardrails, co-created with our Values Framework Group).

IEC’s Values

We believe that healthcare works best when it….

  • Is person-centered and validates every person it serves.

  • Recognizes inherent human worth and rights instead of judging people’s worth based on ability.

  • Helps each person reach their full potential rather than aiming to be “normal.”

  • Assumes each person's ability to make, and honors their self-determination in, decisions about health needs.

  • Builds trust by being flexible and willing to invest time in understanding and meeting each person’s needs.

  • Views patients as equal partners whose personal wisdom about their health needs is as valuable as professional expertise in solving problems together.

  • Understands that clinical standards matter most when they are used in service and in concert with a person’s health goals.

  • Is designed and delivered so that care is easy to access, easy to navigate, and affordable for everyone.

  • Helps people thrive by connecting them to community services beyond healthcare.

  • Offers the greatest financial and other rewards to healthcare partners that deliver results that matter to patients.

Nothing about us without us.

Our Origin Story

This short video tells the story of why and how CEO Mai Pham decided to launch IEC. It was produced by two high school students who are lifelong friends of her autistic son, Alexander.
