The Institute for Exceptional Care (IEC) is thrilled to announce that Kacy Takamoto has joined our team as Chief Advancement Officer. In this new role, Kacy will lead and support IEC’s fundraising, development, communications, and advancement strategies as we continue working to make healthcare better for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD).
“IEC’s important work is changing how the medical field sees and cares for patients, and that kind of change helps everyone. I wish to live in a world that recognizes the differences that exist between individuals but still believes those gaps can be bridged.”
Kacy brings more than a decade of experience in the nonprofit sector, including leadership roles in program management, strategic fund development, and board and organizational development. She previously served as head of programs for a San Francisco-based nonprofit and as director of development and communications for a STEM-focused educational nonprofit. Across her career, she has built strong foundations of sustainability to help organizations grow and thrive.
“As a Japanese-American woman whose parents and grandparents were interned in prison camps during World War II, I grew up wanting to understand the differences between all human beings, the points of divergence that separated us from one another, and, more importantly, the ways in which moments of connection and empathy could be achieved.”
Kacy was drawn to IEC both through her personal experiences as a person living with a disability and her passion for advocating for equitable solutions for people with disabilities.
She holds a BA in English and American Literature from the University of California at Berkeley and an MA in English from Mills College, where her thesis explored the health ramifications and generational impacts of trauma.
Please join us in welcoming Kacy to the IEC team!
